OET for Nursing

OET for Medicine
The OET for Nursing and OET for Medicine courses are for students who are preparing to take the Occupational English Test (OET) in the Nursing or Medicine healthcare profession streams.
Students who are planning to take the OET in one of the
other healthcare profession streams (e.g. Dentistry, Physiotherapy) will benefit
from the skills taught in the course. The Reading and Listening content is the
same for all streams. The skills taught in the Writing and Speaking sections
are relevant to all students, as all candidates complete the same type of
tasks, but students in non-Nursing or Medicine streams won’t encounter
scenarios that are specific to their healthcare profession.
The OET for Nursing and OET for Medicine courses consist of:
●
Teacher lesson plans
●
Diagnostic test
●
Method videos
●
Practice Test activities
●
Mini-mock and full-mock tests
There are 32 lessons in total for each course.
Teacher lesson plans are divided into four skills:
●
Speaking
●
Writing
●
Reading
●
Listening
There are eight lessons for each
skill. Note that the Listening and Reading lesson plans contain the same
content in the Nursing and Medicine courses, as all OET candidates take the
same Listening and Reading tests regardless of their healthcare profession.
Each lesson should take about 1 hour to teach (depending on
your class level, style, etc). Each lesson teaches students how to approach a
section of the OET test using example questions. Lessons also include grammar,
vocabulary and skill-building activities.
Teachers can decide to allocate specific Practice Test
activities in the student course for homework after the lesson or leave the
student to work through these activities at their own pace.
Teachers can also access the Mock Test Materials tab, which
contains candidate and interlocutor cards and marking rubrics for the Speaking
mock tests and sample answers for the Writing mock tests.
The student course features nine sections.

Mock Tests
Within each of the four skills, Reading, Listening, Speaking
and Writing, the course is broken into A Method section and Practice Tests. The
Method section provides information about the task type and teaches students
how to approach the task in the test. The Practice Tests provide activities
allowing students to develop the skills learnt in the Method section.
Each Practice Test may take varying times to complete based
on the task complexity, level, and individual student needs. Students can be
directed to complete certain activities for homework or can work through the
activities at their own pace.
The Reading and Listening content is the same for both the
OET for Nursing and OET for Medicine courses (as it is on the test), but the
Writing and Speaking content is tailored towards the individual stream, with
practice tasks that contain nursing or medicine scenarios.
